Baxter Breaks Ground to Connect Round Lake, Ill., Campus to Public Wastewater System
Deerfield, Ill. -
Local and Regional Agencies, Community Group Recognized at Groundbreaking Ceremony
Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX) announced today it has broken ground on a construction project to connect its Round Lake, Ill., facilities to the public wastewater system. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
Baxter began the process of connecting to the public wastewater system in 2016 after internal and external studies and analyses. When the sewer-line connection is in place, wastewater from Baxter’s Round Lake campus will flow through the public sewer system to the Fox Lake wastewater treatment plant.
“Baxter partnered with community groups and local and regional government agencies, gathering valuable input to ensure a smooth connection between our Round Lake campus and the public wastewater system,” said Arthur J. Gibson, vice president, Environment, Health and Safety for Baxter. “Connecting to the public system improves our wastewater treatment processes, lowers our costs and helps ensure that all our wastewater will be discharged into the public sewer system.”
Gibson recognized project stakeholders for their partnership and cooperation leading up to today’s groundbreaking. This included the Mayor and Village Administrator of the Village of Round Lake; the Mayor of the Village of Fox Lake; the Lake County Administrator and other county officials; officials of the Lakes Region Sanitary District; and the President and Board Members of the Long Lake Improvement and Sanitation Association.
Robert J. Ringa, President of the Long Lake Improvement and Sanitation Association, said, “Long Lake’s relationship with Baxter is long-standing and valued. Long Lake Improvement and Sanitation Association is very encouraged by the cooperative work between Baxter and the many agencies involved to help foster this positive change for our entire lake community. Long Lake faces a number of environmental challenges so we are very excited about the positive impact this project will have on our precious waterway to be enjoyed for generations to come.”
Baxter has a long history of leadership in corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship. The company has been recognized on Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens list and was recently named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America) for the 18th consecutive year.
