MISSISSAUGA, ON, -

Baxter Canada, a leading medical products company, is proud to honour a health leader who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in patient-centred care and leadership. Doctor Vanessa Burkoski, Chief Nursing Executive and Chief People Strategy, at Humber River Hospital (HRH), received the 2019 Nursing Leadership Award of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), at the June 9, 2019, Honouring Health Leaders event. As a partner in health care in Canada, Baxter has celebrated exceptional health care professionals through its sponsorship of the award for 14 years.

Doctor Burkoski’s admirable leadership has transformed the HRH Patient Safety Plan, Patient Care Councils and led to the creation of the Annual Scholarly Practice Day.

“Baxter is very proud to honour a leader whose vision for Canadian healthcare is focused on patient safety and the interests of the most vulnerable,” said Baxter Canada President, Stephen Thompson.

Doctor Burkoski’s executive and strategic direction was instrumental in the HRH’s achievement of Exemplary Status with Accreditation Canada. She advanced quality improvement initiatives by giving a voice to patients and family advisors on locally driven quality improvement initiatives.

About the Nursing Leadership Award

Since 2005, Baxter has been the proud sponsor of The Nursing Leadership Award, an initiative of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL). The Nursing Leadership Award builds on the themes of patient-centred care and leadership and honours those who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence in these areas. Recipients seek to advance nursing at every level, to remove barriers between providers and to build systems of quality care for patients. They have displayed their leadership qualities both within, and outside, their organization. The programs that they have delivered have resulted in a measurable improvement to their organization's excellence. The award is presented annually at the CCHL Honouring Health Leadership event.
